Just a little beyond irritating...
By Kindle Customer
Rating: 3 1/5
Summary: I won't give that since it can easily be read when you pull up the book.
My Sum-Up Summary: Rachel was once in love with her brother's best friend. He was her first love, her first lover, her first heart-break. For unknown reasons when she was seventeen David broke her heart and left her acting as though everything was fine. Naturally, nothing was fine with her.
A day or two before Christmas he shows up at her mother's house to pick something up but winds up getting stuck there with her during the storm. Being alone and stuck together brings their feelings for each other to the forefront and changes the dynamics of their eight year separation.
The Pros: To start out the short novella had several good points. The characterization, though limited, was there. The Hero and Heroine were both likable characters with no real redeeming qualities needed. The story, albeit short, was a full circle and didn't end with a cliff-hanger. It's a light, partially fluffy read. It's predictable.
The Cons: It is in that last pro given about the novella that the first con can be introduced. In being predictable ONitIS creates so many unsatisfactory points. It's predictable that she was in love with her brother's best friend; predictable that David broke her heart; predictable reasons for why he broke her heart; predictable that they reconciled sexually before verbally. The amount of predictability is very high and at times annoying. The top annoying predictable feature of this read was when the heroine easily sleeps with the hero, and then tries to play it off as if it all meant nothing. Perhaps--no, not perhaps, I find all of that disturbing on a personal level. As someone who doesn't believe in playing games when it comes to relationships I had a hard time accepting that she just slept with him before talking to him about why he dumped her years ago. He at least owed her that. It annoys me to no end when the heroine of a story drones on about how he broke her heart and hurt her, how she isn't over what he did, and how she'll never love him, trust, or fall for him the same way again, but does exactly that without reconciling anything with the hero of the story before she does.
Other cons were in her brother knowing the secret, but never telling her what it was after eight years and blaming her for breaking the hero's heart. WTF? The hero never trying to explain to her within any time of those eight years why he broke up with her when he clearly could have. Lastly, how easily everything was solved.
Considering the pros and cons of the novella and my level of irritation while I read it, I had to give this ONitIS a 3 1/5 for being well written with likable characters.

#2 in trilogy
By Sarah Frost
28/11 - I read Noelle Adams' novella trilogy One Night with her Best Friend, One Night in the Ice Storm and One Night with her Bodyguard over the space of about four hours. They were all very similar in general plot and characterisation. The heroine either doesn't like the hero or doesn't see him in a romantic way. The hero has loved the heroine for years, but hasn't said or done anything about it because he was worried about the reception he would receive from the heroine. One fateful night the hero and heroine are thrown together in an unusual circumstance which changes everything. After their one night together the heroine is scared of what it all means and pushes the hero away, or he runs away because he's scared too. It all ends happily with all misunderstandings resolved and each promising the other that they wanted a committed long-term relationship - none of the characters mentioned marriage. After reading the second, and then the third, I began noticing some repetition of phrases, not within the same book but from one book to another.
There were very few editing and grammar errors, way below the average, not even enough to warrant the loss of half a star from any of the ratings. Despite the tacky, cliched, even trite aspects of the novellas I really, really enjoyed them. I found them sweet and hot. Most of the situations were believable, most of the characters acted in a way that I found realistic (within reason, they were romances after all) and all that adds up to a trio of four star reads.

Enjoyable
By Rad-Reader
David was Rachel’s brothers Brad’s best friend. During the summer eight years ago, Rachel lost something to David that she can never get back and she will never forgive him for it. David never saw it that way, he saw it as the time that would always bind them together.
It is the day before Christmas Eve and she is on her way to spend some time with her mom and brother for the holidays. She was let out of work early and therefore no one was expecting her until much later in the evening. When she arrives there is no one home and the storm that was expected much later arrives early and she is worried that her mom and brother will be out in it.
When she gets a call from her brother saying that mom & him are in town doing some last minute shopping for Christmas and well they are now stuck there due to the storm. So, therefore they will be staying at his place overnight. Then Brad dropped the bomb.
David, her ex would be stopping by to pick up a tool Brad had barrowed and never returned. Not only that but that David might just end up stuck there with her during this storm since the roads were now closing faster and faster. Rachel was not happy.
All the old feeling she has love, sadness, and anger come rushing back. All the things she tried so hard to hide and forget each time she came home for a visit and especially since David and Brad were still great friends. She had already lost her heart and virginity to David the only thing she had left was her pride.
So, when he had left her 8 years ago after their night of sweet love making then never gives her the time of day or calls her she does the same to him to this day. Oh, he tries to be nice and talk but she shuts him down. Being trapped changes everything and secrets to why he never called is revealed as this sweet heart felt Christmas short unfolds.
