The case of the Impurrfect poisoner

Yoshi and Gatsby are the detectives in a sort of Nero Wolfe who never goes out and Archie Goodwin who does the footwork kind of relationship. The local Dog Patrol is akin to the local police and maintain peace in the housing development where they live.
Winter is in full force. The streets and yards are filled with debris from an ice storm. The snow is deep. The sidewalks are too slippery to walk on. In this Christmas-themed story an old friend of Yoshl named Penelope moves back to the neighborhood. Her housemate, a black Labrador named Thor, eats a piece of poisoned baloney left on their back porch. Thor ends up in the vet having his stomach pumped. Penny calls the Dog Patrol to investigate and then asks Yoshi and Gatsby to help find the poisoner. Thor is confused and says that everyone likes him and that no one would want to hurt him.
There is a stray kitten wandering the streets . Penny convinces Gatsby to take him home for a few days to get him out of the freezing cold and snow. To Gatsby's utter surprise, Yoshi agrees to take in the kitten for the holidays since their people have gone away to family for the week.
Another attempt is made on Thor's life. It turns out that everyone in the vicinity, humans and animals alike, hates Thor with a passion. How on Earth can the petectives find out who wants Thor dead with an entire neighborhood full of suspects? The denouement happens at a Christmas party given by Yoshi and Gatsby for all their animal friends. Miss Marple would feel right at home in this mystery.
The animals are fun characters and the humor is spot on. Highly recommended.

Can a Couple of Cats, Work Out Who is Trying to Murder a Dog?

Petectives Christmas Party for the most part has nothing to do with Christmas, other than the younger of two cats in a crime solving partnership wants to throw a party due to the human occupants where they live being away somewhere else. The older more fuddy duddy type cat forbids it, so you can read this story any time of year. The main storyline though, revolves around the attempted murder of a neighbour dog. There's also a rival ex cop canine who isn't too happy his private detective type role is being shared by two cats, one who does the leg work, the other who stays at home. The story reminds me of a cartoon (that's not a bad thing), in the fact that animals can talk and understand each other. Not only is the text in English for the reader, but the animals seem to actually be speaking it, as at one point the older cat, is teaching a kitten how to pronounce words properly in English. You'd think they would always come out Meow or variations on that but that's what I mean by it seeming a bit cartoonish, plus the fact territorial cat fights don't happen like when two cats meet up.
The hour or so long short story is also a mystery that gives enough for you to have solved who was trying to kill the dog, if you were paying attention. I did cringe near the end when the book almost started to almost become preachy religion wise, but luckily the animals in the story spun and mixed in other culture aspects of Christmas into their tale. This was quite a good story, I'll check out the other books in the series one day. You don't need to have read any of the other books to understand and enjoy this one.

short but cute

This was a cute book, though pretty short. It was certainly a different perspective coming from the cat which I did like a lot. While it wasnt a super book, it was cute enough and I probably would read others by this author.
