Motivates me :)

Why do so many people associate weight loss through a road less taken such as this so bad? If you want to lose weight then just do it no matter which road you take, you still lose weight and that's what you want. I actually find this book motivating. I have good intentions with weight loss, it's not just to look good. What I appreciate with this book is that it doesn't stress on calories but rather just juicing and vegetables and fruits. I like it.

I have anorexia and this book is a way for more people to end up with anorexia, oh joy. It is a nightmare life and I can't imagine why anyone would ever want it. This is also the worst way to lose weight because it crashes the metabolism so that eventually, not only will you gain more weight back, but it will be fat instead of healthy muscle weight.

The author is extremely irresponsible in publishing a book like this and makes me wonder if she just wants to cash in on societal pressures to be thin. And yes, I admit to being an idiot for buying it but being starved doesn't lend itself to making wise choices.

Save yourself the money and go see a nutritionist or dietitian if you have weight concerns and can't do it on your own.

The title of this book alone should have it pulled from your site. Instagram and other social media sites are not allowing pro-ana or thinspo hashtags and you need to follow suit. This is tantamount to publishing a cancer how-to. I am very disturbed and hope you do the right thing and discontinue selling or advertising this book.

An Honest Story

I recently read all the the reviews of the Trapp Family Singers, which I have also read. One of the recurring criticisms of the book is that it paints a dishonest picture or too rosy a picture of Maria and the Trapp family (This book was written in the late 40's or early 50's.) Several reviewers mentioned the recent story on the TV series, Biography, which told what they felt was the "real story." Well, it's a shame that the book, Maria, is now out of print. This book was published in 1972, and Maria is much more honest about her sad childhood, and she does not leave out many unflattering pictures of herself. She also tells about her time of atheism and how she came back to her faith. One part of the book details how "blazing mad" she was with God after she married the Baron, and felt that God had "rejected" her as His bride. In another part she details her deep guilt after her husband's death, since she felt that in many ways she had made his life miserable by her "terrible temper"--she makes it clear that the Captain was the quiet and gentle parent in the family, and also discusses how much she disliked the fact that the "Sound of Music" portrayed him as a stern disciplinarian. Maria also tells how much trouble she had letting go of "control" of the family business and how she feels she made mistakes as both a wife, mother, and grandmother. So, you see, Biography's "expose" really had to come, at least somewhat, from Maria's own words. The only reason I didn't give the book five stars is that, at times, the writing is a little hard follow in that it jumps around. However, I did get the feeling that Maria was talking and reminiscing, which is part of the reason for the "jumpiness." Maria's earlier book was written in a different time when people didn't reveal as much about themselves as they do now. The later book is not a "tell all" but strikes a good balance in that I think Maria genuinely wanted to let people see her strengths and weaknesses and what God could do with such a flawed and imperfect individual.

Delightful Story

We have loved the Von Trapp Family for years and read about parts of their life, knowing Maria had a great part in their story. I heard the family sing in the '50's at a small college here in my neighborhood and remember their quaint costumes and unusual songs. Wanting to read more of Maria's story I searced on Amazzon. What a joy to read the book. It came in great condition in a shorter length of time than expected. It's a story for everybody and you will be surprised at Maria's beginnings as a school girl! What a hoot! And what a delight to read "the rest of the story!"

Maria von Trapp: A Portrait in Self-Contradiction

How do you know when Maria von Trapp is not lying? It is simple. When her lips are not moving. In her first book, written in 1949, she tells of the time she met the Captain and the children for the first time. She describes a scene that is very similar to the scene in the play and in the movie. She even mentions that the Captain used a whistle to call the children.
In this book, she states that the Captain was not at home when she arrived, and that Baroness Matilda introduced the children to her.
Hoping that no one will notice her contradictory lies, she blames the producers of the play for (falsely) portraying her husband as a stern disciplinarian. Well, give me a break. It was her 1949 book, telling of the whistle, that gave them the idea. There is also a chapter in the 1949 book about "the baron doesn't want it."
So, she invents the story, and then blames us for believing it.

I took Kathryn's workshop awhile ago and as I meet people who are more closely whom I'm looking for, I am constantly reinspired by her message that the RIGHT person is out there. It's all very encouraging and inspiring to move forth secure in that knowledge. In fact, I might have JUST met her!

About the Author
John Shepherd is Chancellor's Professor of music and sociology, and Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research at Carleton University, ON. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.David Horn was a founding editor of the journal Popular Music (Cambridge University Press, 1981+), and a founding member of IASPM (The International Association for the Study of Popular Music). He was Director of the Institute of Popular Music at the University of Liverpool from 1988 until his retirement in 2002. Together with the blues scholar Paul Oliver he first proposed the idea of EPMOW in the 1980s, and has worked on the project since that time. Other recent publications include two edited volumes: The Cambridge Companion to Jazz (with Mervyn Cooke, 2002),and a special issue of Popular Music in honour of Paul Oliver (2006).Dave Laing is the author of several books on popular music and a former editor of Music Week. Former Research Fellow at the University of Westminster where he conducted research on the music industry.Paul Oliver is a Fellow of Oxford Brookes University.Center for Popular Music Research, The Humboldt Univeristy, Berlin
