Wonderful!

Purchased this DVD for my own use. Received it in a timely manner and could hardly wait to open the package. The entries are clear, easy to read, and the photos are a bonus. (Some downloaded books from online libraries don't always contain photos, and some of the text is text-turned-symbols, but the scanned books on this DVD are neat and easy to read.) The information is what I was hoping to find - am most interested in the documentation of history, and got a kick out of finding recognized surnames and names of familiar locations while browsing the easily searchable pages. Was so impressed with the service and with the compilation and clarity of the information on the DVD that I recommended it (and others) to friends. One friend plans to order a few of the various DVDs offered by this vendor. After getting lost in the information this morning and losing track of time, I placed an order for three more of the West Virginia History & Genealogy DVDs for friends who are sure to also enjoy them. This is a great buy for the money. So many books full of our state's history, right at my fingertips. Almost too good to be true. Thank you for this offering.

Having a handy source for family names is a God-send for a history researcher such as myself! Genealogy is a very big part of my work and this source is used everyday by docents and researchers at the West Virginia Culture and History Library. West Virginia separated from the Commonwealth of Virginia during the Civil War. Not a few county courthouse records were destroyed by one side or the other making the task of present day genealogists a daunting one at the very least. This DVD is a wonderful source once one gets used to how it operates. I highly recommend it for any Virginia/West Virginia researcher's library (as well as for yours).

Did Jesus Err on the End of the World?

Currie is the author of the super-popular book Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic which was part of the "first wave" of books by Catholic converts after the doldrums of the 70s and much of the 80s. That book has been instrumental in countless conversion to Catholicism, Deo gratias.

This book has a narrower focus, specifically trying to explain Jesus' words on the end times, especially in the Olivet discourse. These passages have caused untold confusion among readers, in part because Jesus is speaking not just about one "end" but multiple "ends".

Currie describes the ingenious chiastic structure of Jesus' statements and how they clue the listener/reader into different subjects in these passages. Jesus uses a pattern that looks something like this: ABCDEFGZGFEDCBA, where each statement or phrase is represented by a letter and matched with a complementary statement in bracketed order. "Z", in this case, is the climax or central statement with the group. He uses this structure in several places, and it informs the reader about which "end" He is speaking of, whether the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD or the end of the world.

This book fascinated me because I have never done a serious study of this subject; I was simply never deeply bothered, as many have been, with the apparent contradictions or inconsistencies in Jesus' words. The chiasm and inclusio were thus something new to me, at least as applied here.

Currie's book serves an important function: making a thorough and definitive answer that harmonizes Jesus' statements about the end times and allays the fears of people who think Jesus "messed up" on it. (Of course, Jesus can never "mess up" or err, since He is God, which is why we work so hard to understand how His words can be true.)

Bravo to David Currie for an excellent and helpful book on this important topic!

Like the author's "Rapture" book, but different focus

Currie starts this book with, and writes it largely to address, a problem shared by atheists and Christians alike, specifically by Bertrand Russell, Albert Schweitzer, and C. S. Lewis: Jesus appears to have stated that the world would end before the last of his listeners had died, yet clearly that didn't happen. This bolstered Russell's atheism, led Schweitzer to share fashionable scholarly skepticism about the historicity of the Gospels, and simply provided an embarrassing difficulty for Lewis. Currie presents an argument, sharing the traditional Catholic view starting with the Church Fathers, that allowing for use of some Old Testament figures of speech, the prophecies for "this generation" (of his original hearers) had been fulfilled by the end of AD 70: hence, Jesus was an accurate prophet (or, at worst, historically accurate "prophecies" were added to the Gospels after AD 70 and attributed to Jesus).

This is pretty much the subject of Currie's 2003 book Rapture: The End-Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind and there is some overlap, but the earlier book is more wide-ranging and spends more time addressing dispensationalist ideas such as the pre-millennial Rapture. Here he focuses on the actual words of Jesus, mostly in Matthew and Luke, examining the structure (chiasmus is key) and making a case that much of the prophecy is specifically of events leading up to the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in AD 70, and less about the end of the world. In this view, Jesus went on at such length to ensure that the infant Church he founded would survive: it's largely an instruction manual on how to survive the Roman-Jewish War, and warning of and encouragement for enduring the persecutions leading up to it (though similar persecutions have taken place since then and will in the future).

It's a good effort: I think it might have gotten Russell to concede this point, convinced Schweitzer that the prophecies were definitely fake and added after AD 70 (oh, and Dr. Schweitzer, you thought the alto aria from BWV 74 boring because you had it performed much too slowly -- you'd have heard the rattling chains and the peals of laughter if you'd upped the tempo), and taken a weight off of Lewis' heart. Some readers will simply not accept that Jesus was using Old Testament figures of speech, and will reject the whole argument because there's no record of Jesus being observed literally coming on the clouds when the Temple was about to be destroyed.

I'd probably choose Currie's 2003 book over this one if I could have only one: for me, at least, it covers enough of the ground covered here to make the same case, and covers the Rapture well -- though a more thorough treatment is found in Will Catholics Be Left Behind? (Modern Apologetics Library) .

One of the best books I have read about the end times. This is not the usual doomsday interpretation. Instead, it is based on the early church fathers as well as Old Testament writings. In addition, David Currie is a Biblical scholar who performs vigilant research before putting his thoughts on paper. Definitely worth the purchase price.

Major-label artists such as Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Michelle Shocked, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Robert Earl Keen, Lucinda Williams, and Nancy Griffith played Kerrville early in their careers. Through the years, the Kerrville stage has seen other nationally known artists like Peter Paul & Mary, Judy Collins, Janis Ian, and Arlo Guthrie, while others such as singer/songwriter/actor Ronny Cox play on our stages any given year.

Producer Joe Bevilacqua and his wife, Lorie Kellogg, camped out at the festival for five days to created this hour-long collage, heard on NPR and Sirius XM Radio.

When Austin finally opened the door, his endearing smile broke over her like sunshine, melting her heart even as it thudded in her chest. This was why she had agreed. Well, one of the reasons at least. All Austin had to do was give her that special smile meant just for her, and she wanted to give him the moon.
He reached out and took her hand in his, his large palm dwarfing hers, pulling her into the house. Neither said a word. They did not need to. Mandy was in his arms in an instant, her arms wrapped around his neck, his mouth seizing her lips. The spicy scent of him intoxicated her, rushing straight to her head, and she was instantly drunk with him, wanting nothing but him. His lips burned against hers, his tongue a flame that stroked her lips, delving into her mouth. Their tongues battled, their dance as old as time, the rhythm traveling through their bodies as their hips pressed together.
Austin’s thigh slid between hers, and she could feel him already hard as he pressed against her. When she finally pulled away, she could see the passion in his eyes, his breath as hard and ragged as her own. Then he pushed her away slightly, struggling for control.
“No. I thought about this all day and already I’m so hard and ready to exploded it’s almost unbearable. But I have plans, and I want to go through with them.” There was a glimmer in his eye, along with a mischievous twinkle that was unfamiliar to her. Anxiously, she bit her lip, her hands trembling as they slid from his neck. He grinned at her.
“Come on. I want to show you something.” His hand tugged at hers, pulling her toward his bedroom.
She gasped the moment she walked inside, the sight astonishing her. The room was lit up with candles, dozens of candles of all shapes and sizes dancing as their soft light fluttered around the room. The bright glow threw mysterious shadows across the walls, the sight making her heart skipped a beat. The sensual flames licked the air, and the touch of romance nearly brought her to her knees.
The next site made her tremble as well, though with a different sensation. Austin tugged her to the bed, and she glanced down to see black cuffs attached to each corner. They were new, and she had never seen anything like them before in real life, but she knew exactly what they were for.

Title says it all

Quick story and the title says it all.

She agrees to do anything he wants for his birthday and what he wants is to spank her butt a nice shade of red and then 'do her' hard. Enough said.

This was an extreamly quick read, straight to the point. Average light bondage/ spanking scene.
Was a freebie from Amazon.com so can't complain. Overall it was ok just really short so I can't honestly give more than 2 stars. To me this was like a taste test a little sample of a story or just a quick fantasy.
